Sources of finance
Building societies supply the largest proportion of loans in the housing market. Currently this consists of around half of the sources of funds. Banks are offering an increasing proportion of mortgage finance and currently account for one-third of the market. Insurance companies often supply 'top-up' facilities but constitute only about 1% of the market. Specialist lenders account for 16% of the market, and another limited source of mortgage finance is local authorities.
In our experience the most reliable lenders are the Building Societies and Large Banks, although we do research all lenders.
